Issue 34 / December 2011 NEW RELEASE SNOW PATROL Fallen Empires (14TH NOVEMBER) GUESTLIST.NET INDIE / ROCK 47 7 GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS MATT AND KIM True music fans are sure to approve of this romantic five- piece band from Sunderland. The Bangor boys are back with their latest release Fallen Empires and it's not the Snow Patrol you're used to... Snow Patrol has a very similar quality to uber popular alternative rockers Coldplay in the sense that you recognise a lot of their songs, you know the words and they sell out tours... but you've probably never bought an album. Also like Coldplay's new album, Snow Patrol have sprinkled their music with dance and synth pixie dust. On 'I'll Never Let You Go', 'The Symphony' and on lead single 'Called Out In The Dark' the band venture into unfamiliar dancier territory and it's a valiant effort but the album is at its best when they go back to what they do best, epic and uplifting anthems that you can imagine being sung around the stadium. Snow Patrol's latest album will keep the old fans very happy and win them some new ones with their new direction. Brooklyn's indie pop mischief- makers will get you up and dancing like you think no one's watching. Singer Matt Johnson and drummer Kim Schifino met in college and have been making catchy infectious indie mixed with bubble gum pop crossed over with old school hip hop since 2005, their debut album Matt & Kim was released in 2006. Their second and third albums, Grand and Sidewalks catapulted the fun loving duo into the mainstream with songs being used in Barcadi commercials, NBC's Community and Chuck, HBO's Entourage and Channel 4's Skins, so if you think you haven't heard them before, you DECEMBER RELEASES LARS AND THE HANDS OF LIGHT The Looking Glass (CRUNCHY FROG) MXPX Both Ends Burning (TOOTH AND NAIL) THE CURE Bestival Live 2011 (SUNDAY BEST RECORDINGS) THE BLACK KEYS El Camino (FAT POSSUM RECORDS) MOTLEY CRUE Greatest Hits (WARNER MUSIC GROUP) RAMMSTEIN Made in Germany 1995 - 2011 (SPINEFARM RECORDS) probably have. Not only creative in their musical approach, their videos have made a name for themselves, too. The video for 'Lesson Learned', where they stripped naked and ran through New York City's Times Square, won them an MTV Video Music award for Best Breakthrough Video. Matt & Kim switch up what you thought you knew about punk, indie, pop and hip hop, but mainly they focus on making happy songs for happy people.
