Webinar Videocast: "Going Mobile - Reaching Your Audience Everywhere"
Mygazines' third Webinar dealt with one of the most important subjects to publishers and content producers in 2010: mobile publishing. How do we go about posting content on mobile devices? Native Apps Vs. Web Apps, which model guarantees revenue for the long run?
Our speakers were provided with insight on having an effective mobile publishing strategy. Matt Kinsman, Executive Editor of Folio: Magazine, touched on trends and best practices and gave his opinion about the different aspects of mobile publishing. Nathan Virtue and Jose Sanchez, both experts in the Mygazines platform, showcased the tools that Mygazines offers for optimizing and delivering digital content to targeted audiences, wherever they are.
If you missed it, don't worry. Here's the Webinar's recording and a link to the presentation slides:

Questions/Answers from Webinar:
Q: what about subscription-only access on mobile?
A: Subscription protected publications can be accessed the same way on mobile devices(iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry) as they are viewed on desktop/laptop computers.
Q: Can archived issues be viewed now as spreads on ipad with videos able to be viewed? i have a droid x and my book appears as single pages.
A: Yes! All issues will now show as a two page spread on an iPAD in landscape position AND any FLV video embedded in your publication will be converted to a MOV file for view on iPAD. Other mobile devices such as android show in single page mode due to the small size of the screen.
Q: Is there anyway to edit the text within the mygazine cms to address some of the formatting issues our magazine designs may cause in the pdf layout.
A: You can edit the search-able text content using the mygazines content management system but not the layout or the way that text is displayed. Mygazines does however have a page replacement tool if there are concerns about the layout where you can replace up to 30% of the total pages of your publication with a reformatted page.
Q: Do we need to create a separate pdf for our mobile audience?
A: No, it is not required to create a separate PDF for mobile audiences. Once you upload your PDF, it will be viewable on most mobile devices(iPhone, iPAD,Android,Blackberry) in addition to desktops/laptops.
MORE ANSWERS TO COME!
Updates and New Features: Single Page Downloads, Automatic Widgets and Custom Reseller Portals!
Below is a list of new features and updates we have implemented today!
IMPROVED FLIPBOOK 3.0!
-
Download a single page to a PDF
You can now give your readers the option of choosing 1 or more pages to download into a PDF(eg. if a reader likes pages 1,6, and 15, they can choose those pages to download into a 3 page PDF). You can choose to enable/disable this feature along with the "download entire PDF" option.
-
Custom Link Target Behavior
You will be able to choose from 4 link behaviors for external web links to better control your reader's experience. You can set the behavior using our link tool and entering a valid web URL, which will automatically show the Link Target dropdown list where you can choose:
- Open up the link target in a new page or tab (default)
- Open up the link target in the same window or tab
- Open up the link target in an inline popup - your readers won't have to leave your digital edition
- Open up the link target in the side widget area(must set the widget settings as well using the auto-populate iFrame code: SEE BELOW)
-
Single Page View Optimized - Larger Page Size
If you have your title set to single page view, the page is now larger and occupies more space in the flipbook for easier reading. This is especially useful for documents in landscape format (Powerpoint presentations, Wide Brochures etc)
SUBSCRIPTION MODULE - SUPPORTS PAYPAL PAYFLOW PRO
-
PayPal Payflow Pro Integration
We now support Payflow Pro accounts in addition to regular Paypal accounts
NO CODING EXPERIENCE - NO PROBLEM!
-
Auto-populate the Widget area with popular codes
Want to get a facebook, twitter or RSS feed next to your reader in the widget area and you aren't a programmer? Have no fear because you can now have the widget code auto-fill just by supplying a RSS URL, Twitter account name, or Facebook Page ID.
You can also auto-fill an html iFrame that you would be able to manually set the source page OR integrate with our linking system to automatically load up a web URL(#4 in Custom Link Target Behavior above).
RESELLER PORTAL CUSTOMIZATION
-
Improve the look and feel of your portal with new customizations
If you have purchased a reseller portal you can now choose a color scheme and embed any html/css/javascript code block into your portal pages for improved experience for your customers.
Updates and New Features! Geo Location Campaigns, Custom Domains, Embedded Bookshelf
We've updated and improved our system!
Geo Location Targeting
- Geo Location refers to the physical location of the visitor based on their IP Address. With Geo Location Campaigns, you can serve different publications to different geographically located visitors. As an example, you can serve publication “a” to visitors in New York and publication “b” to visitors in Los Angeles. For each campaign, you will be given one unique link that, once clicked on, will do all the work of figuring out your visitors’ location and serve up the correct content. This means you can market one link, but serve up hundreds of different publications across the globe based on your campaign settings.
- For more on Geo Location Targeting see this post: http://helpdesk.mygazines.com/entries/230239-geographical-targeting
Custom Domains and Link URLS
-
Add your own CUSTOM Domain
Mask any Mygazines references and build your branding by choosing your own domain! All link references, email marketing and system notifications will reflect your domain which you can set at the title level. You'll also get a generic CDN URL(content delivery network) as well if you choose to add your own custom domain to fully mask any data transfer from mygazines in your browser. This feature comes at an additional cost so please contact us for pricing.
eg. If your website is www. yourdomain. com, you could use a domain such as digital. yourdomain. com through which all links and communications will reflect. This is a great way to connect your digital publications to your branding, completely removing Mygazines references from your reader's experience.
-
Use the generic domain
If you don't need a custom domain but still would like to mask any reference to Mygazines, you can choose a generic domain at the title level. Every customer now has the ability to choose the generic domain http://www.epageflip.net. All link references, email marketing and system notifications will then reflect this generic domain and not www.mygazines.com
eg. Instead of www. mygazines. com/issue/XXXXX, you can choose your links to show www. epageflip. net/issue/XXXXX
If you'd like to add another domain such as your own(see below), please contact us for pricing.
Embed a Bookshelf
-
Give visitors to your website a quick and easy way to access all issues under one of your titles by embedding a bookshelf in your website. Just copy a small piece of code from the Mygazines system, paste it in your web page and all issues under your chosen title will be accessible from the bookshelf. Choose the size and one of three styles to get the look and feel you want.
Coming soon!
-
Link Target Behavior
Coming very soon to the Mygazines system will be the ability to choose how a link works when clicked in the reader.
You will be able to choose from 4 link behaviors for external web links to better control your reader's experience.
- Open up the link target in a new page or tab (default)
- Open up the link target in the same window
- Open up the link target in a pop up iFrame
- Open up the link target in the side widget area
