Recent Announcement About Our Products and Solutions

Mygazines Mobile Makes a Splash!

Mygazines Mobile, our universal interface for reading digital editions on-the-go, attracted attention from some of the most influential and specialized media outlets. All experts seemed to be particularly impressed by the cross-platform and multi-device capabilities.

Here is what they had to say:

"Moving toward platforms that target all mobile devices and e-readers without requiring additional work from the publisher will be the focus for 2010 (...) Mygazines Mobile runs off any mobile browser and is offered without additional charge."
-Matt Kinsman, FOLIO

"(Mygazines) has made its collection accessible across all mobile platforms in a digital interface that is more accessible and user-friendly for e-readers than a mobile app."
-MediaInCanada

"(Mygazines Mobile) gives hope that magazines aren't "dying" so much as being reincarnated in a new format." -Alex Alvarez, Mediabistro.com

"Everyone in the media world, it seems is obsessed with the future of magazines in an online world. Yorkville-based Mygazines thinks they have at least part of that problem figured out (...) (Mygazines) announced the launch of an interface for mobile devices - the same system will work for all major handheld gadgets, including the iPhone and Google Android."
-YongeStreetMedia

"We can expect Mygazines' approach to become quite successful within the online publishing arena and to be followed by others (...) The Universal Mobile Interface approach should be carefully considered as an alternative to apps."
-Martin Vendel, Universal Mobile Interface Blog

"(Mygazines) offers publishers a digital tool for reducing distribution costs and delivers thousands of publications to more than 200 countries worldwide."
-Chris Harnick, Mobile Marketer

"First up, this isn’t actually an app. The new Mygazines Mobile portal is simply a simpler interface for browsing the site’s magazine content, one that’s “device independent” thanks to operating within the one thing all modern smartphones have in common: a web browser."
-EUROdroid

"It is a fairly nice looking web app, with smooth scrolling, a useful "text only" article view, and easy access to emailing articles, posting them to social bookmark sites..." -TheLewisFour

Yahoo Finance, BrockNews, TD Ameritrade, ITechwireTMCNet and Forbes also echoed Mygazines' big launch, including dozens of positive mentions on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Fresh new look for Mygazines.com and Mygazines.net

You may have already noticed - Mygazines got a face lift!

On both sites we've freshened up the look and feel - new logo, friendlier color schemes and more closely knit branding across the 2 sites.

On the newsstand's home page you'll also notice a brand new carousel displaying the Top Ranked Publications.

On Mygazines.com, your account tools have been slightly modified as well. You'll notice when managing your titles that buttons next to your issue's thumbnails are better organized, and condensed to allow for growth.

We'd love to know what your think of the new changes!

New feature: Single page replacement in your publications

Page-replace is finally here! You can now replace individual pages in your publication by navigating to the following tabs:

Indexing-> Power Tools -> Replace page in an issue

Simply select the title, issue and page number you wish to replace. Then select a PDF file from your computer.

Make sure the PDF you upload only consists of the one page you wish to change. Otherwise only the first page in the PDF will be considered.

While our system processes this single page replacement, your issue will be unavailable for reading. The process typically takes only a few seconds, but to be safe, only perform this operation when you don't expect a lot of viewers.

Once the operation is complete you will be able to see the changes. (note: you may need to clear your browser's cache)

The page replace feature replaces the individual page you selected as well as updates your original PDF. So, if you enable PDF download, your viewers will see the updated page within the PDF as well.

By default, we allow up to 10%   30%  of pages to be replaced. That means if your publication is 50 pages, you will be able to replace up to 5 pages  15 pages within it. Even if you replace the same page more than once, each time will be counted as a page replacement.

------------------------------------

update: as per the above, we've raised the 10% limit to 30% to account for any types of needed page changes such as ad replacements, typos or processing issues.

An update on what's under development: E-comm, Flipbook 3.0 and iPhone interface

Hi everyone,

we've been keeping fairly hush-hush on what's being developed over here at Mygazines. Well we're finally ready to let you know what's coming...

1. E-COMMERCE ON THE NEWSSTAND

Yes, that's right - you'll soon be able to sell digital editions of your publication via our newsstand. You will be able to set the price per issue or setup multiple subscription products. Our system will handle all transactions and you will be able to cash-out your earnings at any time. There are some restrictions as well as a transaction fee for which details have yet to be finalized. We're also developing a dedicated help section for e-commerce to answer all your questions. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new release.

2. FLIPBOOK 3.0

As many of you have already heard, a newly designed flipbook reader is on its way. This new reader will challenge any existing product on the market - it will be vector based (so no more double-loading when zooming in) as well as more versatile - with all the new devices out on the market, our new Flipbook 3.0 promises to be adaptable to just about any screen/device that supports Flash.

Expected launch date: late February - early March 2010

3. PAGE REPLACEMENT FEATURE

We recently sent you a survey to let us know how we're doing. The most requested new feature (by a mile) was the ability to replace individual pages within a publication. We're happy to announce that this is in development and should be available when the new e-commerce module is launched. No more having to re-upload an entire issue become of a typo on 1 page!

update: http://helpdesk.mygazines.com/forums/64326-announcements/entries/112905-new-feature-single-page-replacement-in-your-publications

4. IPHONE/ITOUCH INTERFACE

Easily the second most requested feature has been for an iPhone/iTouch friendly interface for browsing your digital editions. We're really excited about this one. Development is well under way and so far the results are quite impressive. Stay tuned for more updates and screen shots as they become available.

reseller managment tools - more enhancements

To all resellers,

we have a few minor but important updates that should help you with your productivity when managing your customers' accounts

1. Quick Link to get you back to your customers' management page:

have you ever wished that while you were managing a customer's titles/issues you could quickly get back to their main management page ( where you find the usage report and license transfer form)? Well now you can. On the right side of the top menu (where your customers' account links sit) you'll see a new "managing customer xxxxxx" which will link back to their main management page

2. Viewing more than 10 customers at a time

We've added a series of "results per page" links (10,25,50 and 100) so you can view more at one time. We've added the same to the title's management page so you can view more issues at one time as well!

Search Engine Optimization Improvements

We've just released a couple of new settings that will improve how search engines find and rank your content.

1. Add a description for your title: You'll find this under "Appearance / Flipbook Options" when creating or editing your title.

By adding a description, you'll let search engines know what your content is all about.  We'll also use this description in the future through the system, including the newsstand (if your issues are listed there)

2. Add keywords for you title: You'll find this right below the new "description" field when adding or editing your title.

Keywords further help search engines know what topic your title's issues cover. Try to keep your keywords between 10-15 most important words that describe your content, and avoid duplicating words or phrases.

3. Every word in your publication is now indexable by search engines!

Even if your publication requires login, search-engines-only will still have access to the words in your publication so that they can let searchers know their search phrase is available in your publication. Not only will search engines (like Google, Yahoo and Bing) know that search phrases exist, they'll know exactly which page those terms are found on and will link accordingly.  Search engines will see your publication as a reference manual broken down by Article and page. There's no action on your part required for this to take affect.

So, what should you do now? Log in to your account and update the new Description and Keywords fields for each of your Titles!

Let us know if you have any questions by commenting to this post.

Minor Interface Change:

p.s. we also modified the interface slightly when managing your titles - the title options and preferences are now hidden by default until you click "view title settings..." - this is to allow for expansion as we add more title options and to more easily navigate to the issues list after selecting a title.

improved notification on processing success/failure as well as FTP scheduler

You may have noticed already that when your uploaded issue is complete an email message is generated. The same holds true if there is an error processing an upload.

Resellers and Enterprise clients need not worry about branding - when an email is created, it will appear to be sent by "publishers@[ your domain ]" with the signature appearing as your company name

FTP scheduled jobs that fail due to processing error (i.e. file is corrupt or damaged) will be notified as well

RSS Feeds to your content on the newsstand

We continue to make strides in increasing exposure to our publishers' content on our digital newsstand!

We've just added RSS feeds to Publications, Articles and Compilations. As well, each category and subcategory have their own RSS feed. That means users can now subscribe to receive updates when new issues become available in the category of their choice.

This added feature will directly target users interested in your content! So go ahead and subscribe to an RSS feed - the link is located on the right hand side of each content page

Improved Mini Flipbook: Auto-updated issues, larger crisper sizes

We've listened to your requests and have improved the mini in the following ways:

1. if you set the mini to load the title rather than issue, it will also auto-generate the images from the most recent issue. So you only have to place the code once on your website

2. you can now expand the dimensions of the mini without a height/width ratio constraint. That means if your publication is tall, you can adjust the mini to match your content. You'll also notice the images are crisper as they now auto-adjust in actual size to the dimensions you set. Keep in mind however that if you go too large, it will require longer to load each page - for this reason we've capped the width at 500px.

note: While any existing mini-flipbook embed codes will continue to work, if you'd like to take advantage of these new features you'll need to recreate/paste the embed code on your site

Let us know what you think of these improvements!

New Statistic: Keyword SearchTerms

See what your readers are searching for in real-time!

You'll see a new tab under statistics labeled Search Terms. This report will show you which keywords were entered into the search bar when reading your publication. You can specify both a Title and Issue or only a Title, along with a date range.

The report can then be exported to Excel for further analysis

We'd love to hear your feedback so please feel free to comment!

Thanks,

Yoav

New Parser Default Settings for Titles

By popular request, you can now set the following defaults for your titles, that will be used whenever an issue is processed:

1. Default link style: Set the default styling for all internal and external link

2. Default cover image: if your title is set to "always open" because the first page is used as a placeholder for an opening video, you can now set the cover thumbnail to be created from the second page.  This is especially useful for the newsstand as the cover thumbnail is widely used to reference publications.

you can find these settings at the bottom of Edit Title -> Appearance/Flipbook Options

Introducing: Indexing Power Tools

Just launched is a new tool under INDEXING which allows you to, within any issue, find and replace all link styles and hovertips.

So, for example, if you wish to set all external links in your publication to a blue underline, and have the hovertip read "click to view this product" , you can do so with a click of a button!

For extra peace of mind, before any operation is performed, after pressing submit you will be prompted with a confirmation screen that will advise you of what is about to happen.

You can find this power tool under MY ACCOUNT > INDEXING > POWER TOOL

This is the first of many power tools to come!

improvements to printing pages - especially from Internet Explorer

It was recently discovered that printing pages in Internet Explorer almost always produced a half-page print... this is due to IE's built-in "Shrink to fit" mechanism that automatically shrunk the page content. We found a workaround to this issue and now printing in IE produces much better results without having to adjust the printer settings!

We have also improved printing for both pages and clippings in other browsers such as Google Chrome

top

error description added to failed processes

When processing fails for reasons such as "wrong file format" or "page limit exceeded" you will now see a description of the error to better explain the problem that occurred.  This message will display under the status of the issue when viewed in title management

new minor updates

resellers:

You’ll see a new button under “Reseller tools” labeled “usage report” This report can be exported to excel

Minor fixes to the authentication form:

  • For those titles that require both a username/password, the browser should now prompt to save that username/password and auto-fill it on next entry
  • The <enter> button now triggers the login even when only 1 field is needed

Search Archives by Keyword

The archives modal that launches from the reader toolbar has just been enhanced to include keyword searches across ALL archives!

This means your viewers can now search within ANY of your issues in a single place. Give it a try to see how it works - simply open up any of your publications that have "show archives" enabled, click the "archives" button on the toolbar and enter a keyword in the new search input at the top.

New and improved mini flipbook has arrived

Just release, you now have many more controls over how your mini-flipbook behaves.

1. you can set the mini flipbook to always open to the cover no matter what page is being previewed

2. rather than open your issue, the mini flipbook can launch the TITLE link instead, so that the most recent issue is always displayed on click

3. need to launch a custom page? No problem! You can now override the entire URL that is launched on click.

Check out these great new options now live!

To access, simply login to your account, go to "Manage Titles", select a title, and for any listed issue, click "mini flipbook"

a few minor updates

the following bugs/feature-requests have been implemented:

1. there was a bug when in the manage titles section, if you were past the first page of issues results and switched titles, the pagination would not return to page 1 and in some cases would show NO issues for a title. This has been fixed

2. The Embed Widget will now scroll if content overflows past the user's screen.

3. there was a bug with the clipping basket in IE8 that would cause the 2nd clipping to be inaccessible as well as the pagination in the case where more than 2 clippings exist.  This has been fixed.

New permissions controls for resellers

As a reseller, you can now enable/disable certain features like "allow videos" when editing your clients' profiles. You will see a new "permissions" section at the bottom of the form.  Any extra permissions you possess (such as FTP Scheduling) will also be available as a control over your clients.
